Mapa Trendów 2020
In the meantime, our latest trend map is now available :). This year, it included 54 trends in 5 categories (technological, environmental, economic, social and communication) in 4 maturity zones ( foresight – long-term perspective, 20 years and more; innovation – medium-term perspective, 5-20 years; reactive – short-term perspective, 1-5 years, and new normal – leading trends).
Most of the trends (nearly half of all) fell into the category of technological trends . There are also two trends here – Brain Computer Interface and Quantum Computingwere closest to the foresight zone. It is true that there are already some solutions in this area, but we will have to wait a little longer for the widespread use of these technologies. Personally, I strongly believe in quantum computing technology. Contrary to what we can read in the media, they will not replace traditional computers – it is difficult to send e-mails, write reports or watch YouTube on them :)) – but they will certainly speed up and optimize many processes. Therefore, it can be expected that they will have a huge impact, e.g. for the pharmaceutical industry – faster introduction of drugs to the market, energy or financial. Perhaps this year we will see the first practical applications of this technology.
Technological trends are also interesting in that several of them are mutually exclusive. For example, both the AI for Humanity or Ethical Tech trend and Deepfakes ( Malicious Usage of AI ) have been on the map. However, this should not surprise us – modern technology solves problems, but also generates them. And if I’m being honest – deepfakes are what I fear the most. It is already difficult for us to tell what is true and what is not – and it will be much more difficult. As a consequence, it will be even easier to manipulate the public.
The second large group of trends are environmental trends – most of them are related to the ongoing climate change, the elimination of plastic and the transition to a circular economy. In the context of environmental trends, it is worth noting a clear change in consumer attitudes – a sustainable and ecological lifestyle is no longer an option, but something necessary. The reason for shame is the fact that the garbage is not sorted, the use of disposable plastic bottles or disposable bags. There is also talk of flight shame more and more often – that is, when it becomes a shame to choose an airplane as the primary means of transport, especially for short distances.
From social trends, two trends worth noting are Offline Living and Digital Wellbeing . These are two mutually complementary trends. Offline Living has so far been a countertrend, visible in small consumer groups, possibly used for a short time (weekend, week, a few hours). Nowadays, more and more people are talking about limiting the use of technology, including social media. The Digital Wellbeing campaign is run by, among others, Google, on Facebook and Instagram, we can keep track of our time spent on these channels. I don’t think we’ve completely given up on technology – it’s not possible anymore, but perhaps we’re finally getting to the point where our use of it becomes more conscious.
